Default wrist/forearm release for power ?

watched this video of pete cowan with some u-chubez english golf coach , going on about spinning the forearm down to drive balls ballisitc with minimal effort ........................

    made little sense.

saw another video of an Aussie coach witha HUMONGOUS plastic golf club extolling the virues of
" rotating the right forearm over the left and letting the ams finish with a left wrist hinge angle above the head of 36*.
everyone from Hogan to Hovland does it "

    same thing ?

so, i tried it on sat , that was the only swing thought i concentrated on and picked up " significant distance " on my driver at my first game of the year, well ahead of my end of last year distance .

not a little bit..... a lot!
swing felt A BIT MORE like a golf swing instead of a cover drive i must SAY

have i been missing the obvious that everyone knows for the last 30 yrs ?

    I am predicting W.O.O.D.

If the aussie coach you refer to is Craig Hanson, he does know his stuff.

But if you are talking about "spinning the forearm down" before impact, this suits someone with an on top ( weak) trail hand. If your trail hand is under (strong) you need to go the other way MAROOCH! ( look up @speedgolfrob in IG )

I was taught that when I had a series of lessons, mainly to cure the cover drive type movement I was making (I played cricket growing up). Apart from squaring the club face better at impact and straightening up my shots it probably did help with distance as well.

Do you have the link to the video?

I just accidentally watched a video which is a commentary/follow up on the video you must have seen. Some sage advice here by Zach Allen on this key point of spinning right arm down.

Your body has to be in the right position for this to work.
You cant do it with driving legs or the left arm too far inside.

I have a video of me doing this from a while back.. let me find it.

    OK - here we go.

Hitting an 921 Mizuno Forged 8 iron with Project X LZ Shaft in 6.0 if anyone cares.

First one, the dud - notice the lack of depth on the backswing and this changes the path. 104mph ball speed.
2nd one. Got some depth with the hips, but also the downswing had width and a much better path into the ball. 113mph ball speed.

The arm drop at 29 seconds is the key to width and speed. Notice how much time i give the arms to drop .. there is no drive with the legs...

The change of direction of the club is what gives you club head speed.. not the speed of the body.
Watch your mates this weekend.. they move/spin/drive the body fast and the hands are slow to catch up.
Now watch TV, they keep the body solid and their arms go so damn quick against the solid base.

For a more deep dive into to - the Athletic motion boys did a video here - they do talk dead set unusable nonsense for 70% of the video... but i think you will get something out of it.

and my coach did a video here which is way better.

    viola.

just this , no other thought made a homongous difference to my swing.
I focused on nothing else except getting that right forearm to cross the left and go out. not accross after impact.

Unless it was the new 2016 srixon/diamana kaili tour driver iwas using...........

this was the ete cowan one tha started it all

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rl0HxN5YBwE

but at 45 inch and 317g..

im not exxagerating the differecne was eye opening.
iwas flying bunkers i was rolling into in sept/dec last year.
fresh bod from rest . sure that cud be apart of it but no... not that much diff

imgonna say up to 25-30 yards longer on MOST drives , nt just one.

    irons were a cub +

the one i noticed the most difff on was the 19* utliity that now ends up where my 5 wood used to go.
but miles higher and lands on a dime.

or its the manscrack assantler drops my ex BALCO mate gave me behind a nightclub on thrus night..............
