Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.
Disturbing.
Last round of the month, so for a bit of fun I decided to take note of the leaderboards and set myself some targets.
Target 1 was 21 points, to avoid the Bob. Target 2 was 26, to avoid the hit them often leaderboard. Target 3 was 34, which would be a perfect handicap farming score, as a high flag was being defended. Targets 4 and 5 were better scores that 37 to get on the real leaderboard.
It was a very windy day, with the course playing hard and fast.
Targets 4 and 5 went out the window straight away with 3jacks on the first 2 greens. Target 1 looked like a problem after another two threeputts in the first six holes. After that I played relatively normal, but disappointing golf for 29 points.
I didn't record any more threeputts, so I also avoided a worst ever putting round, but I couldn't hole anything over 5 feet all day.
The real shame of the day was that downwind and on hard fairways the ball was going miles. I got into spots I've never been before, but my short irons weren't much good, so I wasted a number of cracking drives.
I thought it was a hard day, but quite a few of the C grade tappers tore the course apart. I assume it was because they could reach greens they normally can't get to.
