Hack, it's not the worst, just incredibly tight and compromised on some holes because of the housing. It's also got a couple of hidden water hazards which I particularly enjoyed finding. Condition was 4.5/10. Felt to me like one of those places where they are struggling and hence cutting the course maintanence budget seems to make sense in the short term. I'd never played Cypress before and had heard some bad reports on conditioning, I enjoyed the course and it was in great nick. Some funky holes but they were fun. It's only a couple of kms from HVCC and IMO worth the trip.

Thanks PG, I am reciprocal with the Vintage up there so I might just stick with there by the sounds of it.

Not sure if you know, a lot of the bunkers were being re done at The Vintage, still a better option than HVCC

Next year I'm planning to play the 9-holer at Cameron Corner. It has 3 holes in each of NSW/SA/QLD. That counts as 3 courses surely?

I may even venture across town to play Townsville GC.

Quite a few issues.

Only about 8 of the holes are done, still 10,to go. When I played there in late August, all the greens has been spray painted green to look good. Once up close they were all half dead.

The good par 4's in the course that were 400m have been butchered to 300m to accomodate the housing estate, in the middle of the course. The greens have that many levels and dips that is not really suitable to the location. The greens were so hard as a rock.

One new hole she has built, no. 2. 340m par 4. At the landing area there has been 1000's of cubic metre of fill brought in to build a massive hump in the middle of the fairway and 2 bunkers have been cut into this mound either side of the fairway. It's a joke of a hole and not in place with the rest of the course, as it's flat riverside land.

I paid $16 all up for green fees and comp as I grew up in the area and knew the pro. The couple I played with were from Victoria Golf club and got slugged top rate about $55 each to play it. I felt ripped off paying $16.

Only highlight was the friendly barmaid and the cold beer in the clubhouse.
