Default What can you expect from a shop with regards fitting

With regards to shops like drummond, golfbox etc, what could you expect with regards fitting if you after new sticks,

Is it only really flex on shafts, or lie angles on irons? Anything else?

Fit-lotto. Could be someone who knows what they are doing, could be a pimply faced kid fitting using the fitting for dummies guide. Fitting tools and options are restricted, they are unlikely to have anything except standard length and forget about x flex, they will probably measure you up for length, may or may not fit you for lie angle, if they do it may be with standard length clubs. Can be better than this if you get a good fitter, but still half arsed compared to going to a proper fitter.

I have had many fittings from fellow OZgolfers selling stuff and it is usually a simple answer.

Spin rate usually garbage. Drummond use ball speed to work out club head speed so not sure how they do smash.

I wouldn't trust one of those shops with anything regarding fitting.
U will be fitted into their biggest margin every time.

I'm meant to be having a fitting at a Drummond this week on some Srixons. All these comments are getting me worried now. Guy said that the Srixon fitter would be in the store and do the fitting and figure length, lie angles etc. Should I still be worried? He also said that he would then try me with other brands, maybe that's when I'll get the sales push

He might have a launch monitor with him. Also he will probably know what hard stepping means. Much better off with the Srixon fitter than the sales guy that works one saturday a week.

No, you should not be worried, unless you are a gullible idiot. The Trackman figures usually do not lie, so it is very difficult for a retailer to guide you somewhere you do not wish to go. Cynics claim retailers have magic buttons, but I've never read any accounts that directly claim this actually happened.

But to both answer that question and the OP, at the retailers you are essentially fitting yourself through trial and error. They should help you out with lie angles and club length, but from there the rest is up to you. As we on this site know, club fitting is more about looks and feel than anything else (and price, of course). If you like something, you'll talk yourself into buying it, regardless of what a salesman says.

They don't have trackman at Drummond. They have some other thing that takes two photos of the ball and tries to calculate ball speed angle and spin. The rep may have flightscope or trackman with him. These use radar. The Drummond monitor is a guesstimate.

I suggest go get fitted from someone who does all mentioned above including spin rate, is a big factor in driver fitting.

A good mate of mine used to manage one of the bigger golf shops in town.

He openly complained to me that he had to set up his simulator to maximise distance, etc, in order to keep up with the competition as they all did it.

When I hit the Taylormade MCs this past year at one of the major retailers, I was consistently hitting 190 m 6irons.

The numbers you get are absolute rubbish.

Near Brissy? I will take you to my mate for proper fit with no obligation and no ****ing around with the machine.

    Will be all JDM though.

I'm in Sydney, well Darwin atm but live in Sydney. Thanks though.Shop called today and set the rep has had to cancel but that their mimatch system is more accurate anyway which I'm not to keen on. I did go through a Callaway fitting at my course a few months back so know what he came up with so that should help at least. I was fitted into the apex range. Decided to wait due to the update coming but now that the dollar has dived I'm a bit worried on price. I like the look of the Srixon more also.

Fly home tommorrow then back up early November for 2-3 weeks then up again early to mid december.Thinking if I get new clubs I'll fly my old ones up here, may do it either way. Staying near Palmerston so thinking ill join there for 3 months. Any idea what that course is like? Where abouts is the range? Is it even possible to play in this heat without passing out?

Golfmart seem to only recommend Nike when you do a fitting so don't go there.

Palmerston is OK, nothing special but it is a full 18 holes. No range there but the have a decent clubhouse and small putting green.

Driving range is at Berrimah (on the way to Darwin), shuts at 7 every night - has range balls but a grass tee area. Also has a tonne of good gear.

You get used to the heat - riding in a buggy is pretty much a must over summer. It's not too bad.

Let me know when you are up, we'll have a hit. Are you staying in the construction camp? That's where I am.

    Cheers,
    Ben

Edit: there are a few other Ozgolfers up here - Jiminy, Chapzzz, Sheezymanezy. Maybe we could have an Ozgolf day.

    Had the fitting last night.
Pretty sure it was a gc2 for distances and flight then details like height into the mimatch thing. Ended up with the same specs out of it that callaway guy came up with. 2 up and standard length so have bit the bullet.
Set up was defiantly jacked up as hit a couple of 6 irons over 200 which is miles off my normal

Did you take your own irons in and hit them on the computron for a baseline?
