Default A Game On Sand Scrapes for Those That Have Never Tried It

Starting this post to gauge if any S.A OzGolfers are interested in experiencing the interesting game of Golf on Sand Scrapes.

We have some S.A OzGolfers who play on the black stuff week in week out. Want to see how they do it?

Naturally we would wait until the temperature gets lower as Scrapes are no fun on stinking hot days.

There are many courses out in the lower North and Yorke Peninsular that could be chosen but if we were to do it I would highly recommend we play at Ardrossan.
Ardrossan is a great little layout with good variety and has excellent fairways. No need to worry about doing damage to your equipment as it's no different off the fairway to most country greens courses.

There will be no problems getting on on either a Saturday or a Sunday.

So who's up for some thing completely different?

Ardrossan looks like a good track - I have driven past it many a time but yet to play it as it is a fish and chip stop before we get to Edithburgh.

Edithburgh GC: although with some good views of the ocean sits on a rock belt of dirt and weed.

If we are up for a hit on the scrapes I think Ardrossan is probably the best track - I would probably bring my vintage set to make it interesting.

So what actually is a sand scrape?

Do I need my sand wedge, if so, I think 4 or 5 putts would be easily possible for me

Oiled sand greens rather than grass greens mate. You'll have fun...

I've played a golf weekend on scrapes very year for the past 25 years, they are no match for Southern's greens and never will be, but they are great fun and challenging

Can't say I've ever had a 5+ hour round. Rare even to get a 4 and half hour round at all the city courses I play.

Going up to the farm this weekend. Will make some enquires with the Ministers Uncle to to see if there are any dates that are definite outs.
I know they normally have their 27 hole Open in April but that may be a bit much for those that have never played on Sand Greens before.

As far as preferred day goes, would others prefer to play on a Saturday and play in the comp or play on a Sunday?
Keep in mind the club and bar will be open on a Saturday but wont be on a Sunday.

Where is the farm? I can probably do either a Sat or Sun, depending on whether the mrs tells me we are doing anything else. Currently there's nothing on the calendar, but who knows what will change between now and then

Great idea Hatch that'll fix em LOL ( put the scotties away boys)
Ardrossan has the best fairways out here by far .

Should get some practice in on scrapes then do a weekender in July for the Moonta Open on the Saturday then we hit the Dunes Port Hughes on the Sunday.
Playing scrapes one day then fast greens the next really messes with your head!!!!

Would love to join in at Ardrossan but a dickey knee tells me im not going to walk 18 holes on flat ground let alone undulating .
And no carts for hire there.

    April hmmmm Easter is 3rd ,4th ,5th & 6th (Sat 4th)

Ardrossan Open is on the 18th (sat)
Anzac Day is the 25th (sat)
    That leaves the 11th lol

I completely forgot how hectic April is.
Might have to move this to game to May based on that.
First weekend in May is Kapunda's Open so that out for me.

Will put you 2 down as dark pencil in the OP.
