Benno is the "Bits New Year Bash Pacific Harbour Classic long drive champion", so the short fat asian guy must rip it.

Can you explain this word please: "straight" (in a golfing sense please).
My long drive win was a squirty cut. I'd be a monster if I could hit not curvy.

Ask highballin to teach you his draw. That's pretty straight...

saw the "draw" in action yesterday, needs a tad of refinement but the ball path is there, on the other hand, the power fade is awesome, you're a beast!!!!!!

Thought I would revive this thread for 2 reasons. 1 - to let every one know that Bluu is on the money with uncivil war predictions. And secondly to give an update on my progress.
I followed some of the suggestions here, and managed in July to get to my lowest handicap ever (9.3), and also picked up the QLD OG title as well. Knowing that the tools I had, that was about as good as it was going to get.
Took some lessons with Kurt at Darwin GC, focussing on backswing, weight transfer and rotation through the shot. What he showed me works very well - crisp contact, great ball flight and excellent consistency. In theory should be on the up and up.
In reality, the changes aren't going as well as I would like. I have been struggling to break 90, and it all reached a head on my trip to Mackay, with a woeful 97 at Mackay GC, and an embarrassing 114 at Hamilton Island. I think I am was in a no man's land - stuck between my old swing, and my new swing. A couple of refreshers with Kurt after Hamilton Island though highlighted the 2 flaws holding me back from really dialling in his changes.
1 - is tempo. I have to stop swinging at the ball from the top. This is affecting the separation of my upper and lower body, and my balance through the shot.
2 - is backswing plane. My entire golfing life has had a move that takes the club inside and lays the club off flat at the top. Part of my practice now is to almost "Jim Furyk" the club up vertical on the backswing, then dropping it back on plane on the downswing. It is very weird feeling to me, but results have been decent. I don't want to keep this move, but just get used to feeling the club going back-around-up.
I have played 1 round since the tune up - 84 for 36pts at Darwin (30shots less that Hamilton!!). Really focused on the changes and managed to shoot even par for the first 6 holes, and +3 for the front nine. Lost it a bit on the back nine, but still managed 36pts.
Anyway will try to get some video tonight, so hopefully see some change from above.
Cheers,
Ben

I have been thinking about this, and I think this is the worst solution. Examples:
Day 1 2014 Peps birthday bash, Cabra GC. Pork Rolls supplied, score went to shit
Day 2 2014 Peps birthday bash, St Micks GC. Pork Rolls supplied, score went to shit
2015 Qld Champs day 2 - no pork rolls - 41pts
2015 Vic Champs day 1 - no pork rolls - 39pts
Hamilton island 2015 - no pork rolls, score went to shit
Conclusion:
No pork rolls - score might go to shit
With pork rolls - score WILL go to shit

Worse score was Hammo - no pork rolls. Supports my conclusions that shit scores occasionally occur without them. They are guaranteed to occur with them.
Solution: No more on course pork rolls.

Does breakfast at Stella Rossa before the Mackay game count as pork rolls? What did you actually order?

And just wipe the 2 rounds in the Whitsundays from your records. You were star struck by the awesomeness of jdizzle!

I think it was pancakes. Not even any bacon.

Possibly true. Your flushiness is fairly intimidating too.

Hey Benno
Swing looks good and imo most of your issues (including taking it away inside because your hands naturally want to get closer asap ) come from standing to far from the ball
I used to do this and it caused me to hit a lot of shots from towards the toe
I'm no golf pro and there are guys here that know more than me but there is a great drill I learnt from Butch Harmon to determine the correct distance from the ball
Set up to a ball and take your right hand off the club and let it hang hang naturally
If your right hand hangs closer to you than when it was when on the club Butch says your to far away from the ball
Ideally we want the right hand when you take it off the club to hang the same distance it was when you were gripping the club
How far we stand from the ball effects everything including swing plane, tension, balance, angle of attack etc
Have a ball and a club laying around your office or home and a couple of times a day go through your routine and set up to the ball and check your distance by removing your right hand
Before long it will feel good and I believe you can play to your potential
After a few weeks video your swing again and look at the issues you used to have
Thanks
