    Default From archery to golf

    gday all!

have been a competitive target archer for the past 3 years and am looking for a fresh new challenge

i've been fortunate enough to enjoy some success with archery, having represented australia internationally last year and more recently having won the 2014 NSW state target champs. however, apart from attitude, discipline and eagerness to learn, I think the only skill that will carry over is standing side-on to the spot i'm aiming at

it is refreshing to humbly stand on the bottom step once more and i look forward to drawing upon the experience of the forum!

Ever got a bullseye on a target that is three to the right of where you are aiming? If not, you will in golf.

I hope you enjoy the game and the forum.

I have been blown 4 targets across while aiming and put a bullseye in someone else's target once yes

With archery yes, I've learned to listen to the wind, watch the trees etc and time my shots accordingly, or simply aim off if there aren't any usable calm spots

With golf, I am a beginner in every sense of the word. I have done putt-putt once and been to a driving range once.

We have a lot of cowboys and bushrangers on this site.

Maybe you can play the Indian?

Welcome. archery is an awesome sport. The bows these days make it too easy though - bring out the medieval yew bows I reckon.

Welcome to the forum. How expensive is archery compared to golf?

Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.

    Hey mate, welcome.

I pass an archery class every sat morning on the way to my son's Under 8's cricket, and am thinking of enrolling in a session with he and I in the weeks ahead.
Did it once at Lake Keepit as a kid and loved it.

My mate loves the show Arrow, Ive gotten into it too, enjoy it a lot, realise it's far from realistic but hey it's good fun, and would love to do archery now.

I'm a 14 handicap chopper, but happy to have a hit with you one day if you want a few basic tips before seeing a coach.
I work in the city and live down south, not far from you it seems.

Good luck, I went from cricket to golf around 18 months ago, and went 36 handicap to 14 in 3 months then sat there ever since gadnammit, but get out and get stuck into it, it's a great sport.

    Welcome Chylid,
Golf will match every frustration/excitement moment you have ever had in archery, other than the National success!
Unless you are 8 years of age, it is unlikely you will again reach the heights of your archery success.
But then again, it is about the journey not the destination! Great sport on a nice course with decent company and tolerable weather!

On an aside, my 12 year old daughter is thinking about doing archery!
Any tips or things to look out for as a beginner at that age?
