Default Are long irons making a come back ?

Just watched a reply of Jack's 1 iron into 17. Great stuff ! One of best shots in history imo! With my new found excitement I purchased the H4 2iron and today a H5 1 iron from Mizuno. I'm going old school days 1-sw, D, 4wd. These sticks are so easy to hit using KBS S in the 1,2 and 3 irons that help with the higher trajectory. Getting great yards out the 2 and 3 irons and off the fairways! Cant wait to hit 1 iron into a green !
Anyone else gaming the 1 or 2 here?

No poof woods in my bag.

The Titty 990 DCI is king of the bag. I think it's gay Titleist don't make an AP2 2iron. The 712u range is a whole different beast.

Flushing a long iron gives a bigger fat than flushing the Driver.

They are in some respect, but I think it is really the OEMs that are marketing the long irons to increase sales now that hybrids have been around.

I play a 712U 2i in my main game set of mp64s, then my mp60s are 2-pw and my mp32s are 2-pw, some of my most memorable shots in golf have been with the 2 iron.

Agree I cant wait to get a chubby on the course again ! The old Titty wow respect
Agree +1000000000000 on the poof woods should only be used with chippers

I used to play 17* and 21* hybrids, then 4-PW.

But recently I dropped the hybrids and have gone back to a 2 iron/driving iron, then 3-PW.

So far so good, and I find practicing with long irons seems to keep my swing in check.

Mr Bluu if you goin the only iron you will have left is the sand wedge.

I have a 18 deg 2 iron and a 20 deg hybrid that I alternate depending on the course.

I have Hybrids down to six as well, but I'm out of the youth zone as defined in the fashion thread so I am comfortable with this

I will say more next week Binh! Im now on the lookout for your new iron !

Long irons are for keeping it out of the woods. They are for hitting SHOTS!

    Worst thread ever.

I'd love to get back to striking a 4 and 5 iron like days of old. But then I remember that getting close relied on a back pin placement and hitting just on the front. (Or in the case of 4 irons at The Australian, hitting 10-12m short and running it up.)

Good luck with your quest, as I can see where you are coming from.

btw. In 1998, I won our club handicap matchplay, with ... Invex driver, Fat Shaft 1 iron, DCI 2-SW, MacGregor 64* and Precept 'bullseye' putter. In hindsight, the 'strategy' was damage minimalisation, but had a major flaw, that there was nothing to get distance out of the rough.

Interestingly, I bought a Big Bertha Warbird 4w with the winnings, and it just snowballed from there.
You don't get me. I'm part of the Union.

Is a H5 really a 1 iron or a hybrid in driving iron clothes??

Have carried 2 iron and hit some good shots with it. Carry 19 hybrid for high and 3 iron for low.

I played 3-PW in my 712 AP2s, but now go 4-PW in my 712MBs. I also have a DCI 962 2-iron that Bluu cut down the shaft to 7-iron length and adjusted lie accordingly. I've only used it briefly in a few practice rounds, but if I catch it properly it gets out there 200m. It's pretty different looking down at it at address and takes some getting used to - it goes low and runs out like the clappers, but goes pretty straight. When I use it, in my stance I position the ball about where I would a mid-iron.
I myself like hitting long irons...it's a pretty cracking feeling when your able to hit (and hold) a green with a long iron. I have one hybrid in the bag and do use it a fair bit (particularly off the tee), but I myself am happy with just the one hybrid....
