Speaking of PGA Tour, Pampling has won his Tour card back with a Top 25 finish on the Web.com tour. You have to admire his tenacity.
Can anyone explain How Rory grabbed #1 back when he didn't even play? if he didn't get any points and neither did Speith how did their positions change?

It is a rolling calendar system, so points would have dropped off.
From memory Rory skipped the Barclays last year so had no points to defend unlike Spieth.
Edit: I was wrong, both Spieth and McIlroy played in 2014 and finished tied for 22nd at -5.
Maybe because Rory didn't play this year, he didn't drop the points from last year whereas Spieth did because he played.

There are two aspects to the formula that caused this strange result.
It is a two year rolling system, and the ranking is determined by average per event, not by a total number of ranking points. So Rory's average actually went up through him not playing after his 2013 result dropped off.
Usually the system works reasonably well, but it isn't perfect.
People who haven't played the maximum number of events (like Rory) get favoured a bit. Eventually, when his 2014 majors drop off his ranking will drop quite a bit unless he wins again in 2016. For the same reason, Adam Scott is still in the top 15 even though his performances this year are nowhere near that standard. A good example is Victor Dubuisson. His great 2013 end of season efforts are dropping off and not being replaced, so he is now out of the top 50 after being in the low 20's for most of the last two years.
When I posted earlier about JDay's ranking I had no idea of the ranking situation. I thought Rory would have been going backwards, but he isn't.
"There are 50 things to remember in the golf swing. Trouble is that I can only remember 49 of them" - Bob Hope.
^^^ Pretty much that.
Spieth played which added another event to his divisor, both he and Rory essentially lost the same total points for their event 104 weeks ago (Only 1.09% of what they got in that event).
The easiest way to describe it would be to show a really basic calculation, using vaguely representative figures.
Imagine Rory had 500 points and played 50 events, he would have an average of 10 (500/50=10)
Imagine Jordan had 600 points and played 60 events, he would also have an average of 10 (600/60=10)
The points they both lost were negligible, so we wont even take that into account. But because Rory didn't play, he has a round less on his divisor, so their new total:
Rory has 500 points and played 49 events, he would have an average of 10.2 (500/49=10.2)
Jordan has 600 points and played 60 events, he would also have an average of 10 (600/60=10)
In the end it doesn't matter because WE ALL KNOW Jason Day is the best in the world right now.
JD is one off the lead, two ahead off Rory and another five on Jordan.😀Go Jason #1 in the sights!
22 year old has missed the last two cuts, burn out?? interesting to see if he can bounce back

can't blame the 716's, went back to his old 714's for this tourney, this is his first real test I believe
Goddamnit Stenson. Takes a double on the Par 3 and hands the tournament over to Rickie. Either a complete miss hit or took one club too short but that water should never have been in play when he's leading by one stroke at that point.
Love listening to the radio in the PGA Tour app while at work. Surprisingly entertaining.
