Default How to make your swing longer?

What are the best drills for making your swing longer? As much as i tell myself to "finish my backswing" I'll be #$%*ed if i can do it.

Have you tried to smooth out your swing at the top? Hard to describe, but normal take away, once your hands hit say shoulder height actually slow down. You should then feel the top of your swing, thereafter it's business as usual.

I bet your backswing is longer than you think. Where do you think you stop it vs where you really stop it?

    Short good, long bad

I hit 10 balls today, with a PW into the green, 118m out

Did short swing, left arm felt parallel to the ground, felt like I had excellent control

    7/10 landed on the green

Why would you want more backswing, because it doesn't result in better distance and certainly not better accuracy

Which bit is impressive, 118m with a PW, or left arm parallel

Seriously though, keeping the swing short feels like I'm not doing enough, but distance doesn't seem to be sacrificed and control and divot is so much better

I often get the feeling I don't complete the back swing before starting the transition down. Result is spaying them around a bit and inconstant contact.
What I've found works for me is:
When taking a practice swing without ball I take the club back as I normally would but stop at the top and hold it for an extended pause before starting the down swing. I've found this helps in making sure i get to the top stop that micro second before starting down.
The practice swing is a rehearsal of what I would like to do only a slower/less aggressive version of the real swing. The extended pause helps train the micro second pause on the real thing with a ball to hit. Found it works best with gaining control of an erratic Driver.

Hope it makes sense and is in line with what your after.

    What Hatch said.

My number 1 swing thought at the moment is "wait", and what I mean by that is to remind myself not to start the downswing too early. It has made a big difference to my iron play in the last few rounds...

Shorter swings are the way to go! The longer you swing the more chance for something to go wrong!
