    Default peninsula kingswood merge

Kingswoods 600 members move to peninsula, sell kingswood to developers for 80m, 20m to be spent on course improvement, 20m on the clubhouse, 40 on deposit and give the membership base a huge boost. Good club to belonging to!

Last I heard, that action was floundering from lack of funds. Not enough members prepared to put up money to fight it.

If I was a member of Kingswood (I was for more then 10 years) and I lived south of the course, I would be thrilled that my new home course is Peninsula. If you live North of the course, well you will have at least 30 minute drive to get to Peninsula now

I have a few mates still playing there. Most have decided to join Victoria wait list as they cant see an end to the issues. As Chappy mentioned many are not happy with the current proposal. The 80 million is an over estimate in the current environment. It is a very interesting golf landscape atm in Victoria with other clubs in discussions of mergers all watching the devlopments at Kingswood.

Some people get very attached to their golf club and course, and will resist any change to the status quo.

I find the merger solution to be an interesting development that I haven't seen before. Will it simply turn out to be a takeover by Peninsula?

I'm no expert on Melbourne golf (and some will say I know nothing about Sydney golf either), but Sydney has had a few closures and moves over the years. Each time, one of two things occurred. Either the course simply folded (East Hills springs to mind) or moved to a new location and changed identity (Ashlar/Stonecutters and Kellyville/Lynwood did this). The only takeover I can recall was my former home base of Camden Valley, where the club essentially took over the former resort/public Camden Lakeside.

I don't know how Stonies is going, but the other relocations didn't seem to solve the financial problems of the club itself. That is, the alleged riches gained by selling the old land didn't transfer into a financial utopia for the new club.

If this post sends the thread too far away from the original issue I will apologise, and if it gets interesting I'll use my new power to move comments into a new thread.

Chappy, does Victoria require proof of permission from spouse before accepting applications? That would sort a few people out if it became a trend.

    I don't believe so Jim

It's like stepping back in time, you need some one to propose you and a few seconders, then a short written commentary around your working professional pursuits, golfing ability and general standing in the community

She needs to understand that the 10k joining is an investment in long term happiness! Good members, good facilities, near home and a great course whats stopping (apart from school fees). If we ever move back to Melbourne Im there.
On topic of Kingswood there is another motion being aired atm!!!

I was surprised at the woodlands as well, I presume to get out of debt, the course maybe busy its great to have a high active participation based membership, doesn't mean that can pay the bills . you a member JB?

They would take advantage of a doomed club now before it's to late. No cost to them.

Kingswood merge is moving. It was in court last week. The action is not being funded by the members. It is being funded by the residents who live around the perimiter of the course and dont want their amenity disturbed by row after row of mirvac boxes. They are funding a member to front them. The basis of the action is that kingswood allowed peninsular members to join kingswood for $1 then held the vote. The argument was that the vote was unfair. I was wrong about the figure ion post 1. It is way higher.

Another bites the dust Waverley closes and joins Churchill park - hardly top notch courses, but a trend that's gaining momentum.

    Waverley, really?

Wow, like you said not exactly the cream of the crop and I know the course had its faults but I never minded playing it. Was a decent, fun track.
