Video of him hitting driver today at kids clinic looked good.

Some moron yelled out "mashed potato" after he hit, teaching the next generation well.

I saw the Chronicles of a Golf Champion edition that features Tiger last week. Foxtel often show the Chronicles when they have half an hour to fill. The Tiger one is very interesting for two reasons.

Firstly, it was recorded about 2010, before his latest struggles and problems. So none of that stuff gets a mention. But it is interesting to compare his love of the game (and of talking about himself) to what we see of him in interviews now. He is a different guy.

Secondly, it starts with him talking about how difficult it is to be a complete package with no golfing weaknesses. He says he wasn't the best golfer with the best swing, but when his game was combined with his mental strength on the course, he became the best.

From what I can see, it is his mental state that concerns him most, and it might be stopping him from playing.

I think he did the right thing by not playing until his own event, which is not a PGA Tour event. It is about as low pressure as a Tiger return to golf could ever be. So the Hero Challenge will be his big test, just to see if he can still do it. He doesn't have to win. Anything better than last place is probably good enough.

It will be very interesting, assuming he gets through the Hero, as to what his next event would be. Would he want to play somewhere hard, or somewhere easy? I wouldn't think he'd play the Pro-am at Pebble, but he might play at Torrey Pines.

He could be also playing the Hero challenge as there is no Cut. he at least gets 4 days of golf.

He has to get some rounds in under pressure... it has been a few years since he had that Mojo working.

Good luck to Woods this weekend, from a long term minor critic.

He's saying all the right things (again) and is hitting any shot he wants to on the range with control apparently. His driver swing looks very fluid and hopefully he can take all this from the range to the course. His short game should understandably take time to bed back in.

On the equipment front he's broken the internet, or is about to. He's realised the mighty Taylormade is where it's at for the driver and fairways now he's under no obligations and can play what he likes. Early indications are he will bag the M2 driver which is enjoying some crazy popularity on tour. He's also been spotted with a TM 3 wood and it should show up as well. I'm guessing the M2 tour, be interesting to see which variation if so. On the putter front the old Scotty Cameron will also reappear.

Edit - On the ball front he's said to be gaming the B330s.

There's no cut so hopefully he holds up over all 4 days.

I'm not sure about the ratings in the real world, but every Ozgolfer who reads the equipment forum will be watching the first round.

Apparently Bridgestone made some of his previous Nike models. I'm thinking he might be using the ball he finds best suits him (or is an easy transition) and money will come secondary. The pro's all say the ball is the most difficult equipment change.
