Default Pro Shop improvement - contact details

When contacting buyers/tyre kickers I always provide my mobile number via PM, maybe this should become mandatory?

Folks could always provide dodgy details, but they'd get weeded out pretty quick. It's always easier to contact someone then rather than have the seller eventually post in their thread that their computer died, they had an urgent family matter or whatever the excuse may be.

Communication is key, non response can be construed as an admission of guilt (by some, me included), if you aren't prepared to provide contact info up front maybe you aren't fair dinkum?

What exactly are you suggesting, 3od? We can't really have mobile phone numbers posted publicly, although we used to keep some in a private forum area, but we don't have control over PMs. Is it an etiquette thing?

Certainly only by PM, and probably etiquette, maybe the buyer doesn't pay until he receives the contact details via PM.

Protects the buyer first and foremost and would prevent any witch hunts as there would be no need to post in the for sale thread "mate, where are you".

I was trying to decide between improvement and suggestion

Contact details only work if the seller answers the phone or returns calls (in a reasonable time)

Possibubly, but I also find it easier to deal with sms once the initial contact has been made. Each to their own, I guess at the end of the day there are people I won't deal with and others are probably the same.

Has there been talk of a feedback system?

It works well on other sites that I have seen.

Probably won't stop the total rip off, but is great to identify guys that have a strong record of communication and getting things out on time.

I think there has been, but it probably doesn't work. Look at Rough_rider, completed a few transactions without trouble then dropped off the radar.

A feedback system probably won't stop a true con artist, and I think the forum doesn't want to have responsibility for pro shop txns either. I guess otherwise they'd just close the pro shop if it ever got too bad.

No ones been attacked for doing it as such. People were attacked for being smarmy twats when the rule was pointed out to them.

Dont want every twat in the Facebook buy sell group posting their stuff on here. 40/40 rule works pretty well, benno, I suspect a finger somewhere almost pushed a ban button.

I was wondering if it would be JC that made the comment, close I guess

The clear difference being that gerbal jumped on with the express purpose to sell, but then someone who has been here for 2.5 months with only 10 posts said "oh, I have one of these if you want it".

It's a pretty clear difference for mine, but anything to stir the shit I guess.

And I assume (which Gemell is free to correct if I am Wrong) that the bulk lots of odyssey putters and srixon utes he picked up at auction, weren't being offered at cost as a service to forum members.

Either way, I think the 40/40 rule is fine, but may need to tweaked to include replying to wanted ads and linking to your own auctions.

Did he jump on just to sell?

As I have stated previously, I didn't really follow the entire saga.

You can talk about shit stirring 3.

Gemmell stated what he wanted to do and was howled down for it.

Hutchy has actually circumvented the rules and nothing really, except for tim's slightly odd outburst.

I don't have a problem with either poster or what they want to do. What is the point of the rule if a work around is allowed? Of course because people don't agree with my opinion on this I am trolling.

true, however again the difference was that when he was told he carried on like a two bob watch, insulting as many folk as he could in the shortest time possible.

Not fussed on the Hutchy thing, there were enough hints dropped re TSG to either help the buyer decide how legit the guy was, or go PM him on TSG, really a non event when comparing to someone that only Perci had dealt with.

The fact that gerbil was apparently trying to profit hightlights how he valued the comminuty aspect of things.

I don't disagree, but I do, irrational name calling is trolling for mine, not shit stirring

I agree with Yoss. We really should be consistent.

Having said that we also don't want to be nazi jackbooted moderators, if someone shows the right attitude and is clearly here to share the knowledge and benefit the community then we should be able to show a little discretion. Likewise if someone fails the attitude test perhaps instead of having half the forum attack them, it could be left to the moderators to deal with. Everyone jumped on the bandwagon - in multiple threads, some where he'd done nothing wrong, that's disappointing. If we were more proactive (and I think we should have been) then it shouldn't have just been Gemmel having a brief holiday.

I clearly made a mistake, here for golf and to sell, buy...whatever I can do as long as its golf I don't care, love the game and the gear.
Haven't actually posted anything for sale, just mentioned when wanted.
Once pointed out by Pete apologies made and will hang fire till such a time the 40/40 rule has been observed.

I cant stop people asking what I have, by email, call or PM. That happens every day regardless of this site either by recommendation or people I have dealt with before.

Missed the gemell saga so cant comment. Look at the end of the day I am here for the right reasons, thats as simple as I can say.
We are a ozy forum and a good one at that. Think less soap opera dramas and more relevant conversation is what is good for this space.

Hope this is all just a storm in a teacup and we can get on with the good stuff...all good if anyone else is
