OZgolf 2014 Eclectic

Gonna give this another go after a hiatus last year.

For those unfamiliar, an eclectic score is your best gross score on each hole of your course over a given period of time.

The 2014 Eclectic runs from yesterday (1 January) to 31 December.

Scores from any official club competition round (stroke, par, stableford) are permitted (no social rounds).

To enter, you need to post the following after your first round:

- Course
- Pars of each hole
- Your gross scores for those holes

As you play rounds during the year and improve on those gross scores, you need to post your improvements.

At the end of the year, the winner will be determined by the lowest under par score minus half of your Golflink handicap at the end of the year.

There will be a Lotto/Powerball draw similar to previous years, but I'll work out the details of the later on.

Plenty of pars, but no birdies in my first home course round for about 3 months. I expect more rounds for the rest of the year and expect at least a few more updates to this.

A nice birdie on 14 during my pennant match on Sunday and one on 9 today do nothing for my eclectic. Damn! I thought the 14th might have been the first for the year. I left a couple short of the heart today, and missed a couple of other opportunities today.

I got a birdie on 11 in a pennant match a few weeks ago. A birdie on that hole was well overdue, since it is only a wedge approach in. 4, 7, 12 and 13 are definite birdie candidates if I can get my game together.

I've got enough rounds to start this now. Using Courty's spreadsheet, it is really interesting to see the differences between holes - it really highlights the ones I do consistently poorly on! My target for the rest of the year is to get my eclectic as close to par as possible!

Update!

Finally birdied 8 today. Can't believe it's taken this long... it's the shortest hole on the course! And it took a 5m+ putt to drop as well.



I included my hole-by-hole averages this time out of interest. 5 is clearly my hardest hole, playing 1.2 over par. No surprises given it's a 210m par 3 with 2 big bunkers guarding the front of the green.

So based on only 10 rounds, my eclectic finishes at +4.

If I included social rounds I think it would be +1, but I need to work out how to play the 5th - I've never been close to a par there!

Goal for next year - get this to be under par, with no bogies.

Final update for the year after todays round. No further improvement sees me finish at -15. Disappointed I couldn't get birdies on 4 & 14.

I've also recalculated the indexes based on my results. Makes for an interesting comparison to the actual indexes.
