Default Monthly Mug Profile - November 2013 - Dotty

    Username: Dotty

    Home club: Pennant Hills

How often do you play: Usually twice a week

    Current handicap: 11

    Lowest ever handicap: 6.9

Dream handicap: 16 (That way I only have to concentrate for one hole each nine.)

How long have you played golf: 30 years

How did you catch the golfing bug: Brother bought a new set of irons and kept his old ones under the bed, in case they didn’t work. I was spending Sat. arvos in the members bar at Catalina Country Club, so I thought I might give it a try.

What's currently in your bag: (That day)
    RAZR-Fit 11.5* with a tipped A flex
    Xhot 4w, 5w, 4h, 5h, 6h
    Cobra 7-SW
    Mizuno R12 56*
    Bettinardi B88 355g

What golf ball do you use: Penta TP5 or QStar

Dream golfing purchase: Just ordered some Cobra BioCell irons.

Favourite golf course played: Barnbougle Dunes

Dream golf destination, or trip: I’d happily do a 4 day weekend every year, staying at Barnbougle Lost Farm resort and play both courses.

If you could pick three others, dead or alive, to play a round with, who would they be: Any three who attended the recent Qld champs. It wouldn’t matter which three.

If you could pick three ozgolfers to play a round with, who would they be: MrBluu for the entertainment, WBennett to win a couple of beers off, Grunt, so we wouldn’t be bothered by mosquitoes

Your favourite golf memory: In hindsight, having my father caddy for me in the semi and final of the handicap matchplay. (He was the ultimate NAGA. Only won a single ball in 50+ games, in a 2BBB comp that he only contributed 2 points.) He lost his sight a couple of years later, so it really was a case of doing things ‘in those living years’. (My winnings? A silver plate inscribed 1998 President’s Cup, which just happens to be the only year that The Internationals won.)

Have you ever had a hole in one? If yes, talk us through it: No, that takes skill.

Have you ever had a “Solarman moment”? If yes, talk us through it: Would you like that alphabetically, chronologically or order of embarrassment? Most often, it involves mistaking the numbers 50 and 58 on wedges.

Favourite current tour player: Angel Cabrera, as I can relate to the build, the love of red meat and grumbling about an approach shot, only to watch it run up to the hole.

Favourite golfer past or present? Why: Jack Nicklaus. He came across as an ordinary guy, that made the most of his talent.
Also the fall guy for one of the funniest ever lines in golf, during a skins exhibition at Mirage Port Douglas. Pixie-Anne Wheatley asked ‘Mr. Nicklaus, does it upset you that every current golfer has copied your strategy?’ Puzzled look from Jack. ‘You know, hit the big shots at the start of each hole, and the little ones at the end.’.

Favourite Australian golfer: Steven Bowditch, for the opportunities he gave OzGolfers a couple of years back at his tournament and the PGA.

Ditto. I promise never to call you Grimace ever again. In all seriousness, Scott showed me incredible kindness this year and went above and beyond the calling of a bloke you know on a golf forum. We were eternally grateful. Dotty makes my 4some as well.

Cheers and I hope your game comes back with a vengeance. I might need to go back to the quieter roomy next time.

The Energiser Bunnies had me laughing from 6am, which only stopped when they headed to the casino at 9pm. So, at 6am the next morning, they would tell their casino stories and cycle continued. My ribs are only just recovering.

    Dotty,
Was is your stance on alcohol abuse in the canine community?

Look, I had a hard day at work, the trains were delayed, so I thought I'd have one drink, while I was waiting.

I remember JC thinking that Dotty was of the female persuasion. I did set him straight though.
