Default What should my stats be?

Does anyone know what the average stats are for golfers 0-12, 13-20, etc?

On the Golf Mates web site it gives these averages:

    Grade A:
    driving accuracy 58%
    Greens in Reg 43%
    Putts per Round 31.42

    Which is helpful, but.......

But what about Up & Down % per round?
    Greens missed?
    Sand saves % ?

My Up and down rate is about 24%.
    Putts per round is 32.7
However I only hit 35% of greens (my Greens in Regulation rate varies between 33% and 44%, av'ge allegedly 35% because of 2 particularly bad rounds; and my driving accuracy is 59%)

Am I a shit putter, a shit chipper, or both? (I feel like I'm a good putter, but the stats tell a different story. I have slid up to 8.0 since landing in Oz, I was off 5 in the UK (4.6) and I must admit to finding these Bermuda greens difficult. I play at 2 courses, one with Bermuda grass and one bent grass. I feel the bent grass course is helping my putting stats, the other one is killing them.

It's be nice to know. The fairways, GIR and putts are probably not far off my averages.

    Up and downs I'd be > 24% but probably < 50% sadly.

Sand saves I'd be 30% maybe?

Not sure if I am your average A grader though. I've always considered my short game worse than average for my 6 handicap.

I think your GIR are your problem. 35% is ordinary. Off 5 you'd want to be hitting about 10-12 a round. Start hitting a few more greens and you'll come down again.

Ben and Ron putting is directly related to how often you hit it inside 10-15feet. consider myself a decent ball striker and putter, but well below average in short game. Putting stats are deceiving if you are either hitting a lot of greens or you are hitting it outside the 10-15 feet range.

I found over the years and especially recently that my putting is related to how many times I can hit it inside the 10-15 feet range. The more I hit it inside this range the more 1 putts I make. I've hit 12 or 13 greens but had 30 putts and still played and putter really well cos a lot of 1st putts were from outside this range. Sometimes I chip the ball really well, but if I'm leaving myself difficult shots in hard to get it inside the 10-15 range, then that's is a ball striking issue.

Secret is getting it inside 10-15feet range. If you can do this all day and you are having a lot of putts then it's a putting issue. If you need to chip it to get inside this range then it's a ball striking issue.

No idea what the averages for amateurs should be, but the pros numbers can be found on the PGA Tour site.

My stats for the last few years are here. FWIW, I consider ball-striking to be the biggest weakness in my game... FIR & GIRs back that up.

Ah, that is a great thread, thanks very much!

I like the advice to look at your stats for each category and then read across to see what handicap that puts you in. In my own case that means:

Putting - (1.9 per hole for GIR and 1.8 per hole overall) that is the expected range for a 2 to 4 handicap
Fairways hit (59%) equates to 3 or 4 handicap
    GIR (36%) equates to a 12 -13 handicap
Up and Downs (25%) equates to a 15 handicap.

So my problem is ball striking with the irons, and chipping.
