Default Week commencing 20th February 2012

Had a win and a NTP in my first comp round with the PGN this morning.

    Shot +4 ( 97/68 )
    Fwy 8/14
    GIR 3
    Putts 34

Had a crook neck and couldn't really hit down on the ball but hit it reasonable enough to give myself a chance and had my best day with the putter and wedges for quite a while. New clubs and a few tips from Fit seem to be doing the trick.

Was a huge improvement on my last round at Secret Harbour (121) and has brought my handicap in seven to 22.

Pretty happy camper at the moment

    Well done Ashes.

Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday and a hope for tomorrow. - New York Tribune, 1916.

Had a hit yesterday, with the new trainee, with some mixed results..

Had 78 - 36 pts without doing anything overly special. Putted very badly, missed 4 putts that you I should have holed, including one on our 17th, from a foot... (very similar to last sunday) for a total of 31 putts. That did include a chip in

Drove the ball well, and think the work I am putting in on my swing changes is starting to show. Starting to get the correct feeling more often..

Individual stableford at Cairns GC this morning. It started out a touch overcast, but quickly turned nasty. That's the 2nd round in a row that Solarman's round has ended on the 3rd hole. We would have had a couple of inches of rain in a matter of minutes between putting out on the 3rd green & 4th tee-off.

Considering I was spraying them all over the place, it's a pretty good result. 28 putts tells the story. The three birdies were all from outside 15 feet, and the one on 16 was more like 30 ft.

    Stats here.

Nice work Courty. How do you find golfshot (I assume you're using iPhone)? Is it much of a distraction or time consuming to use out on the course?

Mate, I use the same app as Courty.... It a great way to track your progress and identify a few things. I never use it during though, unless it is a super slow day. Normally takes 5 mins at the end to go back through the day and input it then. I think I would find it a distraction during the round, but horses for courses. It is so simple, yet IMO maybe the best tool I use for golf.

Thanks Popper. I usually make notes as I go so doing it afterwards would work for me.

4BBB SF today, had a good front 9 but bad back 9.
    I shot 30pts, 18f, 12b. 4FW,2GIR, 39putts. Team had 23f, 18b. One of the groups 2 behind us scored in the 50's.

Had another bad day with the driver, and another bad day with the putter (6 3 putts and lots of missed short putts on front). OKish with irons, except for a few horrible shanks.
Was pretty hot, glad we play mornings and not afternoons!

I enter the details whilst walking from one hole to the next. Takes 10-15 seconds at most.

Ended up playing this morning first thing. Great fun in getting around in 3.5 hrs.

4BBB par - personally finished up +3, team score of +5 off my stick (fortunately the 2 i wiped were balanced out by the halves the other bloke made). Went back to the superdeep/v2 combo for the driver. 2 driving holes, 2 fairways.

Good day, and ready for payday tomorrow!

Went out and braved the elements at Windaroo 'Lakes'...
35pts, which I wasn't too unhappy with. It's the first round in the wet that I haven't struggled with fat horrible shots. Ball striking was actually pretty good.
Hit some good putts, but a few too many 3-jiggles...

Pennants is cancelled tomorrow, so next round SHOULD be a medal next weekend...we'll see...

Up and down round today. 3 putt bogey on the first then birdied 7 to get back to square. Then the worlds softest bogeys on 8, 9 and 11 (2 of these were 3 putts). Birdied 13 then put a ball out of bounds on 15 for 4 over. 1 roll short of an eagle on 16, kick in bird on 17 and 10 footer for bird on 18 to finish 1 over.
    73 - 3 - 70.

You clearly need to change something with regards to mental approach to actual comp golf.

Oh yeah, I played on Wednesday

38 points not in the comp at Barwon Heads

-1 to par in the comp at 13th Beach.

Made 3 up and downs in 36 holes - short game was disgraceful all day.

Saw Jimmy Bartel though so it was an awesome day.

Played Grey Rock @ Austin, Tx today. I was 10 over on four holes but managed an 82. Set a personnel best with 5 birdies though. Back to the range tomorrow.

I agree with this post about Rubes. I've seen him put some spectacular holes together, but plenty come unstuck by trying to hit it too hard/and losing the smooth swing. The mind has to remain focused to keep that same train of thought. At the moment, my mental approach is also not focused enough.
