    Default Boomerang Putting Experiment - Ozgolf Member's Offer

    Hi,

    My name's Alex Moore and I make the Boomerang Putting System.

    I've very kindly been given permission to tell you, in a new thread, what we've been doing for the past couple of months over in a thread that was started way back in 2006.

    Since May I've had an offer for Ozgolf Members over at BoomGolf.com.au. It's a pretty good deal and saves a bit of money. I won't spiel you about the product here, if you're interested you can follow the link to check it out for yourself.

    What I would like to do here though, is invite you to join the Boomerang Putting Experiment. What is the BPE? It's an exchange really. You agree to by a Boom and record your putting stroke and stats, and I agree to send you feedback, drills and other videos to help you get the most out of your current putting stroke. After 30 days we then look back to compare the before and afters.

    There is another option too. That is to work with me to learn the Boomerang Technique. If you choose this option I will teach you full BoomTech. The result will be that you should easily get the required 5-in-a-row to earn your very own Instructor's cap. You can't buy my instructor's caps, so in if you're wearing one, you've earned it.

    We've already had numerous "guinea pigs" run through the experiment. Some have done exceptionally well, most have done well although we did have a pretty large attrition rate due to work and social commitments.

    Here's a few vids, from amongst the many submitted. All can be viewed over on our YouTube BPE playlist - http://www.youtube.com/my_playlists?p=DF623CC81C6377C8

    Mega doing very well.

    IanO when he started.

    IanO after some solid work.

    OK, so what do you need to do to get started? That's Easy -

    1. Follow this link to the Ozgolf Member's Offer - http://www.boomgolf.com/ozgolf.htm
    2. Select either the budget or deluxe option
    3. Record your putting stats and post them here
    4. Take a video of your stroke on the Boom when it arrives
    5. Submit the video to YouTube (or post it to me on a card).
    6. Receive feedback, drills and other videos in exchange

    If you've got any questions, I'm usually not far away. Hope you'll give it a try, I'm confident you'll be putting the dimples off the ball if you do.

    Cheers,

    Alex aka PuttingGuru

    Alex, I will put up a video of me with the new club either later today or tomorrow. I am going to change the grip from the standard one to a jumbo and do some practice and then do another video to post (my current putter has a mid-size grip on it but I was about to change it back to a jumbo when you sent me this new putter)

    Hi Putting Guru

    I'd like to join your BPE and to learn the full BoomTech and not just improve my current putting technique. I don't get to play as often as I would like these days with family/kids commitments but will get a couple of games in during the experiment. My putting stats for my past four rounds are:
    PPR = 32.3
    GIR = 7
    PPGIR = 2.14

    I have also found some stats for when I was playing more regularly. These are for 30 rounds during late 2005 / early 2006:
    PPR = 31.4
    GIR = 8.3
    PPGIR = 1.87

    I've always felt that my ball striking is far superior to my short game and am looking forward to working on improving my putting.

    I've never posted a video onto YouTube but hopefully it's not too difficult task and i'll get some video up as soon as my Boomerang arrives. I ordered it last night and have received your confirmation that it's on its way today to South Perth WA.

    Hi FG,

    Welcome to the experiment and let me say how much I like the homework you've done already

    Looking forward to your first video, let me know if you get stuck. These guys do some free and very user friendly software if you need to compress any files http://www.avs4you.com/

    I don't need them long or big though. 5-10 putts should show us what need to know.

    Cheers,

    Alex

    Ian, doesn't look too shabby. Probably get you some results on the course. Looking forward to seeing how you go next round you play. I would say the EZ-1 is 385g, so you can get away with a much more controlled take away. That will help you keep the sync. A the moment there's a bit of decel in there.

    I haven't even given this guy any feedback yet. He only got his Boom last week. Then he emailed me and said he wanted to learn BoomTech. I told him about the Zero Backswing Drill on our FAQ page and last night I got this video from his iPhone. My only problem is, it's not meant to be that easy.

    Anyone like to guess what the first piece of feedback I'm going to give him is? You got it - pick your hands up.

    What a great strike putt though!

    Hey Alex, I haven't played a comp round yet but went out for 9 holes on Sunday afternoon with the new putter and shot 1 over Par off the stick (I am off 14 so 6 shots under my handicap for 9). I know there is a big difference between comp and a practice round but I was really happy with my putting.

    1.75 putts per GIR
    1.55 putts per hole for 9 holes

    1st (Par 5) - 10' putt for Par
    2nd (Par 4) - GIR, 12' to 6" - Par
    3rd (Par 4) - 6' putt for Par
    4th (Par 4) - 20', 8" short, Bogie
    5th (Par 3) - GIR, 30', 2' under hole, Par
    6th (Par 4) - 10', Lipped out, Bogie
    7th (Par 5) - 10' putt Par
    8th (Par 3) - GIR, 6' Putt, Birdie
    9th (Par 4) - GIR, 12', Lipped out, Par

    I've just loaded a bunch of the BPE videos on to our video page. http://www.boomgolf.com/video.htm

    Got IanO, Mega, Pieface and Yossarian with a few other "one hit wonders" too

    For the first time you can see the before and after strokes side by side - and it makes for some very interesting viewing.

    Enjoy!

    Had a bash on the boom the past couple of nights. Really happy with how the technique seems to stick over time, I was hitting them as well as I ever did after a couple of putts.

    I'm finding the lower levels much harder to stick catches than level 5.The weight needs to be perfect. Hoping a bit more practice at my weak range will translate onto the course.

    L1 and L2 - guaranteed to drive you insane!

    The interesting thing is, when you regain some common sense and go back to L5, it's like going from a snooker table to a pool table.

    Good to hear it seems to be sticking. Post a vid and I'll give it the once over, if you like.

    Isn't level 1 the lowest angle on the Boom? I thought that was meant to be easier, as that's what I use it on.

    It says to start at Level 5, but why? It doesn't talk about progression through levels easier. Is both Level 6 and Level 4 harder than Level 5?

    If you want a flat 10ft-er on the Boom though, put it on level 1, not 5, because that's a much closer approximation
    This is why I do it, keeping in mind that I don't set it up perfectly for the catch and return game. I like to be rewarded by the catch.

    I just cut the bit out about how, when you're on L5, your mistakes show up big. Trying to finesse L1s, you can't see nearly as much.

    Here's what I just added to our instructions page, why did I ever remove it... ?

    CHOOSING A LEVEL:

    When you've identified a break free practice area, it's time to set up your Boomerang. I strongly recommend that you start your Boomerang experience on level 5. Why L5, not L1? Short answer, the longer your stroke, the easier it is to spot faults or errors. Because L5 represents a longer putt, your stroke is also longer, the finesse reqired for a catch and release challenge on L1 requires much more skill.

    I received my Boomerang on Friday and have had two sessions on it to date. I haven't been able to upload a video to YouTube yet due to running out of download quota (and possibly being computer illiterate!). Hopefully the download issue will be rectified in the next couple of days.

    I have tried to email a video file directly to Putting Guru. Hopefully he receives it overnight and is able to upload it for me. Although I have read the first thread I have tried to spend the first couple of sessions putting as I normally would without using any knowledge I have gained from here.

    Hi FG,

    Didn't get a clip come through, send it again.

    If you're struggling, you can download the AVS for you software above - it's free. Then you'll be able to compress your files very easily. I was surprised how easy it was to use.

    Cheers,

    Alex
