Default Best Course in Fiji ??

So I have decided after weeks of pestering from the wife that we will go on a family holiday to Fiji this year... so this now begs the question... What is the best golf course in Fiji to play ? and should i take my clubs or do they have decent hire sets over there ?

Any feedback would be awesome. Thanks guys

Mint, I went on a cruise in '86 to Fiji.

I played a course there. It was before I took up golf so I can't remember much about it. Can't remember what it was called or where it was for that matter.

    Hope that helps.

That's similar to the 9 hole course at The Fijian resort that I played bare foot. Great fun though.

    Bump!!!

Heading to Denaru next week... Staying at the Westin. I have done very little research on this trip as we are tagging along with a group of mates. Kristy just mentioned unlimited golf is included in our package.

Is the place a goat track? Worth taking clubs or not...?

Denarau is great. Nice track, decent nick (weather dependant I guess). Worth taking the clubs for.

Natadola Bay is about an hour from Denarau. It's where the Fiji Open is held. I loved it, a beautiful golf course.

Denarau is wide, pretty flat, but good fun. Buy a couple of stubbies from the little shop across the road (but don't forget your bottle opener)

Take your own clubs, and tip the guys at the golf club. They will remember you every day and look after you

I played Natadola Bay a week before the fiji open last year and loved it.

Great layout, great condition, spectacular views and very challenging in the wind.......

You'll kick yourself if you don't play Natadola!!

Less than an hour from Denarau, and only about $30 in a taxi return trip. And the taxi driver will stay there and wait for you to finish.

You cab thank us when you get back for the recommendation!!

    Really... That good? Hmmm....

I will play Denarau & see if golf and I are friends. The fact I have played zero golf in 15 months leans to the fact that the chances of me playing well are slim.

    Then Denarau will suit.
And if you can find a taxi driver to go from Denarau to Natadola for $30 - you are doing very well. Bloke I played with one day cost him $150 Aud return, but the driver did hang around.

I'm heading over the first week of June, how pricey are the courses you mention? The lads Im going with are social golfers and won't pay big dollars for a hit.

You just play the taxi drivers off against each other.......

Offer to buy them lunch whilst they're waiting for you........

We always try and use the same taxi driver whilst were there for everything, so get to know them and they're only too happy to help out.......

Ouch. Hire sets there are not cheap either...

Take a couple of shirts and half a dozen balls and a pair of shoes - just in case.

I am in Suva now for another year or so

The only 2 decent courses here are Denarau and Natadola

Denarau probably equivalent to Australian resort stryle course, Natadola would make the top 100 easily

Denarau (Nadi) is a good resort course well maintained and quite a lot of run on fairways, greens consistent. A good day out and hackers don't lose too many balls

Natadola is a spectacular course 35 minutes from Nadi. Very challenging. Ocean front with couple of holes on the beach. Can be very windy and the rough is dense. If your ball lands in the rough it is gone, end of story. I love this course because the big hitters get in all sorts of trouble. If you have any slice or hook tendencies the wind will steal your ball. Accuracy a must. Hackers can lose a dozen or more balls, even good players lose a few. Several opportunities to buy (rent, lol) used balls from the locals.

Nadi Airport Golf Course 10 minutes from Denarau in bad shape, fairways and greens very neglected.

Courses at Lautoka and Ba are awful dry open paddocks. Don't bother.

ShangriLa 15 minutes from Natadola is quite a fun 9 hole course.

Naviti Resort 60 minutes east of Natadola is a short 9 hole course for 'hit and giggle'. Shang is better.

Pearl Championship course in Pacific Harbour interesting course but gets twice the rain as Nadi course, therefore can be a mudbath with shabby greens. Expect to lose balls plugged deep in the fairway. I live 45 minutes from there and my last 3 games there were misery. Not worth the drive from Nadi.

Suva course I play every week, quite ok considering it gets rained on every night. Generally zero run on the fairways and the greens are very slow. Very friendly place. Not worth trip from Nadi but if you are in Suva is definitely worth a hit. Generally more enjoyable than Pearl.

Annual rainfall in Nadi (west coast) is 1800mm per year. Suva (east) gets 3000mm per year. Pacific Harbour gets even more than Suva, had 160mm overnight sometimes. Therefore eastside golf is sloppy.
