Yup. Very very strange.

Proud. Inspired. True.
The Getz is probably the most sane idea. Then again, I have seven sets of golf clubs at home - so not the most level headed in some things.

BTW trading in my Wrx and buying a SUV urban destroyer.....testing what is out there the Hyundai ix35 got the nod...
GN going to buy a wide body sometime next year![]()
If you are just looking for 45kms travel you want something comfortable and quiet, with a bit of poke...
Honda Accord Euro - though boring as batshit, has 145KW, 4 doors, oodles of torque, is bloody comfy with all the trimmings for less that $40K
Otherwise - I would be in BMW, Audi or Merc territory... the falcodoors are both the same plastic fantastic, shit ride, noisey, thirsty and just not that engaging to drive. The seats are awful and really - it is a taxi with a V8 engine.
The Euro cars just eat up KM's and make traffic that much easier to deal with, you can watch TV whilst stationary and the radar will stop you running into the car in front.
The WRX and EVO have a shit, noisey ride... they are getting better to be sure . . . but it is still a go cart, and is not a relaxing ride. Also thoguht the kids like the bit of zoom, they get bored with it on the long trips.
Really what you want is a Ducati 999 or a BMW M3... or both.

With three kids in the back and a Mrs on the side - not likely.
On a two wheeler, I would kill myself.
30km of the 45km trip is in wine country so I have trucks to contend with. I agree about the European ride, but don't want to own a used model. Issues I've had in the past with them has been quirky electric issues.
Don't get me started on the Alfa I heard. With the amount of electrical issues I had with that I swear it was a hybrid...in fact, I did swear a lot at that car.

The Honda Euro is like an Aurion. I'd be better buying a Hybrid Camry.

Good man... Ducati - helping riders become machanics since 1928
No - it aint. They both have the same power, but the ride, interior and handling is way better in the Honda. The non Euro reminds me of the Aurion.
Not in a two year old one... especially with any later model Audi, Merc or BMW. They are pretty much rock solid, plus if you pick one up after 2 years - you will still have 12 months warranty with an option to extend to 5 years for just under $600. Just make sure you buy something at least 323i or higher, anything less wont pull the skin off custard.
If you pick up a Falcodoor and you will have rattles and recalls for the first 12 months, followed by a feeling of being just like everyone else for the rest of the driving life.
I reckon it is pretty much a "no brainer" - bogan muscle car vs Euro comfort vs hotted up rice burner...
Personally I want the VW Sirrocco

Some serious real world advice...he gets to play(sorry work) legally in these things on the roads.
Never driven the Mitsi's. Mate has an STI and have driven it. Lovely car for driving fast. But for day to day....well it's not a day to day car.
FG XR6T....well I have one of these (in a ute) and I love it. I may have gotten lucky but 16mths and 34k km and no problems other than some prik reversing into the tailgate at the golf club.
Essentially its just another Falcon with some cosmetics (I have the Lux Pack tho) but the drivetrain is without doubt the best thing ever in an Aussie car. The 6speed auto is just silk. The engine is a monster and thank god for stability control programs. Its very similar to the BA/BF Typhoon in power but it is different in turbo, intercooler and the pipe work. Although they say 270KW (flywheel) they majority that have been dyno'd are running 240++RWKW which equates much closer to 290 flywheel Kw's. They also perform much closer to a 350hp car.
You will lose your licence quicker than a sloppy fart takes to clear your undies. In fact try it without TC engaged and you will have a sloppy fart as well.
I fixed the brakes in mine by putting in the 6 pot Brembo's and large rears (well spent $2500).
Anyway so far the best new car I have driven (and we get new Commodores and Toyotas at work regularly).
Ohh and economy - mixed cycle is averaging @ 10.5l/100km according to my meter - however due to two weekends with trips up the coast on the FW I have dropped down to 10.2l/100. Hwy cycle only has been 9l/100km in my case. If you get into the habit of punting it hard it will blow out to 12l/100km. PS I only run 98PULP although it will run any of the others.

sorry, i thought i read that the OP was wanting a comfy car for the commute, with a "bit of poke". Don't like the G6ET, then buy a GTI or Beemer and be like every other homo metro wannabe out there.
Don;t they have traction control in the G6ET ?
Did not know the warranty extension for the BMs. Great another to add to the list.

Not into the whole car testing - time and interest lacking. Will Internet the various models before I narrow it down and test.
The wife likes the larger car having had a Fairlane, Discovery and now the Terracan. It's a matter of getting her to come around to using a smaller car as it will be hers in 3 or 4 years.
I haven't had any issues with the Fairlane other than a radiator and water pump for 12 years. The Disco costs us a fuel pump in the 13 years we had it. Did look oily but never onto the ground.
Last year, when the Alfa died, I picked up a $2000 Mitsubishi Verada '96. I've put nearly 40k since April last year. Haven't serviced it yet but top up the oil regularly as it has a bit of a leak. Everything is still working.
I'll fix it up with a service and timing belt when I get the new car. Of course, once I've spent a bit of money on it, it will probably fail.
