Get the Getz, hyundai are bringing in the i20 to replace it so you should be able to get good deals on it soon.

The Getz is probably the most sane idea. Then again, I have seven sets of golf clubs at home - so not the most level headed in some things.

The 335i comes in both 2 and 4 door versions, plus convertible and wagon models.

You can go the V8 way but quality is always an issue and for the money a 2 year 335 BMW is a much better option.

Or. Get a Subaru liberty and warm it up at MRT. You get a comfy car with oodles of power and no cops looking for you.
    Comparing apple with oranges....

    2wd (front) to AWD

and if you have driven the lastest Scoobys things have changed in regards to ride...can't comment on interior all the jap cars are plastic fantastics....

my Beemer had a nice interior better than my Wrx....

Both of these stock are more powerful than any stock Subarus. Not interested in aftermarket work. It has to be stock in order to keep resale.

The Mondeo is very nice but the X5 is on its way out and does not come in auto.

I like the BMW 335 and is the best looking but being 2 door is impractical. I've owned a 5 and 7 series in the past, acquiring them at around the 2 year mark. Servicing gets expensive and finding a used version with the right combination of options is not easy.

I've looked at the Mazdas and nothing in the Toyota is exciting. An Aurion is sheep in wolf's clothing. Finish is better than a Ford but not performance.

Considered the Holden SV6 and SS variants. Ford, on paper, looks better unless I go for an SS sportswagon. However, at around 600 kms per week, V8s are out.

I'll probably keep the car for more than 4 years and pass it down to the Mrs as I move on to the next one. That will be an SUV.

The Evo may be too much car for me as I won't be pushing past speed limits or testing the upper limits of any car. I'm not the good a driver. I am looking at a car the is going to get me 45Km to work everyday and in peak hour or some days.

The 2010 EVO I can get has the performance pack and 150km for around $53k. Tourfit mentioned the Ralliart hatch at $43k new, which is probably a good fit if it doesn't prove to be small for my needs. The stock version is probably adequate but may see if better tyres are available.

High performance cars are unreliable if driven on a daily basis. I like the 5 year and 10 year powertrain warranty that Mitsubishi offer. Gives me some piece of mind for 6 years or so.

I hope to take some of these cars for a drive in the next few weeks and then make a decision.
Beemers are cheaper than any turbo car to service.....

Anyway my 130 was way cheaper than my Rex, Stivo Corolla, honda civic and RX7....

What must be considered is the servicing periods.......

If you are just looking for 45kms travel you want something comfortable and quiet, with a bit of poke...

Honda Accord Euro - though boring as batshit, has 145KW, 4 doors, oodles of torque, is bloody comfy with all the trimmings for less that $40K

Otherwise - I would be in BMW, Audi or Merc territory... the falcodoors are both the same plastic fantastic, shit ride, noisey, thirsty and just not that engaging to drive. The seats are awful and really - it is a taxi with a V8 engine.

The Euro cars just eat up KM's and make traffic that much easier to deal with, you can watch TV whilst stationary and the radar will stop you running into the car in front.

The WRX and EVO have a shit, noisey ride... they are getting better to be sure . . . but it is still a go cart, and is not a relaxing ride. Also thoguht the kids like the bit of zoom, they get bored with it on the long trips.

Really what you want is a Ducati 999 or a BMW M3... or both.

With three kids in the back and a Mrs on the side - not likely.

On a two wheeler, I would kill myself.

30km of the 45km trip is in wine country so I have trucks to contend with. I agree about the European ride, but don't want to own a used model. Issues I've had in the past with them has been quirky electric issues.

Don't get me started on the Alfa I heard. With the amount of electrical issues I had with that I swear it was a hybrid...in fact, I did swear a lot at that car.

The Honda Euro is like an Aurion. I'd be better buying a Hybrid Camry.

Alfa is notorious for being shit reliability, plus being italian makes me think can we realy call it euro but thats another argument....

German on the other hand it where its at......

Apart from that I don't mind the XR6T

No - it aint. They both have the same power, but the ride, interior and handling is way better in the Honda. The non Euro reminds me of the Aurion.

Not in a two year old one... especially with any later model Audi, Merc or BMW. They are pretty much rock solid, plus if you pick one up after 2 years - you will still have 12 months warranty with an option to extend to 5 years for just under $600. Just make sure you buy something at least 323i or higher, anything less wont pull the skin off custard.

If you pick up a Falcodoor and you will have rattles and recalls for the first 12 months, followed by a feeling of being just like everyone else for the rest of the driving life.

I reckon it is pretty much a "no brainer" - bogan muscle car vs Euro comfort vs hotted up rice burner...

Personally I want the VW Sirrocco

The AWD is just amazing in this. The thing sticks like s^%$ to a nappy. Both have sports seats with the EVO having proper RECARO seats. If you are on the 'larger' side you may struggle with these seats.

The XR6T again, fantastic car. Very quick and smooth. The engine i beleive is the old F6 typhoon engine. Breaking is pretty good but I do find they get brake fade if you start to use them a lot. Heaps more room than the Mitsu's and this maybe a consideration, especially when looking for room in the boot for clubs. The only issue I have with the Ford is I find the suspension to be a little wish washy at higher speeds.
Some serious real world advice...he gets to play(sorry work) legally in these things on the roads.

Never driven the Mitsi's. Mate has an STI and have driven it. Lovely car for driving fast. But for day to day....well it's not a day to day car.

FG XR6T....well I have one of these (in a ute) and I love it. I may have gotten lucky but 16mths and 34k km and no problems other than some prik reversing into the tailgate at the golf club.
Essentially its just another Falcon with some cosmetics (I have the Lux Pack tho) but the drivetrain is without doubt the best thing ever in an Aussie car. The 6speed auto is just silk. The engine is a monster and thank god for stability control programs. Its very similar to the BA/BF Typhoon in power but it is different in turbo, intercooler and the pipe work. Although they say 270KW (flywheel) they majority that have been dyno'd are running 240++RWKW which equates much closer to 290 flywheel Kw's. They also perform much closer to a 350hp car.
You will lose your licence quicker than a sloppy fart takes to clear your undies. In fact try it without TC engaged and you will have a sloppy fart as well.

I fixed the brakes in mine by putting in the 6 pot Brembo's and large rears (well spent $2500).
Anyway so far the best new car I have driven (and we get new Commodores and Toyotas at work regularly).

Ohh and economy - mixed cycle is averaging @ 10.5l/100km according to my meter - however due to two weekends with trips up the coast on the FW I have dropped down to 10.2l/100. Hwy cycle only has been 9l/100km in my case. If you get into the habit of punting it hard it will blow out to 12l/100km. PS I only run 98PULP although it will run any of the others.
    Cheers

Apart from the crappy plasticy interior......the No LSD bit, is what took the G6ET out of my list prior to buying the Lib GT......all that torque for 1 wheel is just plain stupid.

Did not know the warranty extension for the BMs. Great another to add to the list.

Not into the whole car testing - time and interest lacking. Will Internet the various models before I narrow it down and test.

The wife likes the larger car having had a Fairlane, Discovery and now the Terracan. It's a matter of getting her to come around to using a smaller car as it will be hers in 3 or 4 years.

I haven't had any issues with the Fairlane other than a radiator and water pump for 12 years. The Disco costs us a fuel pump in the 13 years we had it. Did look oily but never onto the ground.

Last year, when the Alfa died, I picked up a $2000 Mitsubishi Verada '96. I've put nearly 40k since April last year. Haven't serviced it yet but top up the oil regularly as it has a bit of a leak. Everything is still working.

I'll fix it up with a service and timing belt when I get the new car. Of course, once I've spent a bit of money on it, it will probably fail.
