    Default Stonemason in Brisbane

    Anyone know a good stonemason in Brisbane? I've bought a couple of slabs of granite that need to be turned into a kitchen bench.

    Recommendations are always handy. Cheers.

    I restored a bathroom washstand in a house I had in Corinda and used a mob in Bulimba. They were excellent. Will have a look and see if I can remember their name.

    A friend of mine's parents are stonemasons. I'll ask if they're interested in this sort of work.

    Unfortunately the cutting/finishing of the stuff is an $$ exercise. Unless it's significant/particular or exceptional quality stone, it's often an exercise for nothing [unless you 'know' somebody]

    Some advice;
    I had some granite, that i was going to use as a benchtop. after a fair bit of time and effort spent getting quotes, i ended up selling it to a stone mason, and with that cash gave another mob a cash sale for new stone benchtops... sounds a bit stupid i know, but theres a certain scale of economy in there somewhere. That ended up being easily the most cost effective transaction for the same result.

    I ended up having a result. One of the stonemasons who does work for the stone shop I got my granite from said he'd do it. He usually does the whole package and makes a fortune onselling the stone, but also does work this way. All up it'll cost me $3800 fully installed. A far cry from the 6k most stone places were quoting.

    Have done the same with flooring. Floor "specialist" shops were all around the $160-180/m2 for what we wanted. By finding the wood wholesale, someone to lay it separately, and then a different guy to sand/polish (all recommendations) we're doing it for less that $100/m2.

    Actually I've done the entire reno this way to date and saved thousands. Thinking there's room for me to make a margin on this doing it as a business. Once it's been done once and you have all the contacts it'd be a piece of piss.

    You obviously have done any plumbing

    Unfortunately tilers/floorers/plasterers/painters/cabinetmakers (of which stone fellas are just a glorified sidekick to generally) are the ones who are easy to co-ordinate and inturn save a margin on. Not all trades are as easy to work with....
