Default Split 6's in golf and how it works

The most common version that we play is with 3 players, and there are 6 points available for each hole. 4 points are awarded to the outright winner (best net or best stableford etc) and runner up gets 2. Should there be a half, then the points are shared ie, 3 points each for halved winners, two points each if all three "half" or if there is a winner (4 points) and the other two half, one point each. This is effectively a two way matchplay. Some vary the game by giving all 6 points to the winner if he wins by two shots from the next player. Some will declare a winner every 6 holes. Always a bit of fun.

What do you play for, a $1 a point?

Normally one or a sleeve of balls each with winner takes all and last place shouts drinks.

Exactly how we do it if there is only three in our group.

Aggregate scoring system where 6 points are awarded every hole.

Last time I played it the winning score was 39pts, 2nd 38pts and last 31pts.Total scores should add up to 108.

Split 6's is designed for three players. Read my original post again and once you get your head around the scoring system it easy to follow. On your score card write scores for each hole and on the other side write running totals.

    Good luck

We use stableford scoring with split 6s and if two players wipe and the other one scores they get the full 6 points! Your rarely get a tie with split 6's.

We usually play 2+2+2 when we have a four, two BBB teams, stableford scoring, you can win the front nine, the back nine and/or total eighteen.

I have played another version of this where you play as a 2BBB Stab for 6 holes, 2BBB Aggregate for 6 Holes then 6 holes of 2B Multiplier. Is a good fun event that you are in almost all day with the multiplier either getting you back in it or ending it rather fast

might as well just play normal net scores then.

When i was a junior playing with members, they would often play split sixes because i wasnt able to join in the bet. I remember one bloke got towelled up for an extraordinary amount of money, he had to pay up very close to the maximum, and in those days it cost him something like the equivalent of over 50 beers.

I remember my dad warning me never ever to allow myself to be 'hustled' into playing that game. Because it might seem harmless enough to play for .50c a unit, but you could lose a lot of money even if you dont play poorly.

IMO:If your not willing to back yourself then success in life will allways be a struggle and somewhat unrewarding.

Played split 6's the other day , was good.. but the guy coming in last can decide a few matches if he really wants to right at the end with missing a putt etc..

    Wolf is my favourite.

Throw tee's up to choose order of who is wolf 1st then we usually just play the order in clockwise direction from that. Its played between 4 people and when your wolf you get to choose someone to be on your team for the hole , or to go it alone . You have to pick the person after tee shots are played, (directly after they are played , cant wait till all 4 tee off) . Wolf tee's off last incase he chooses to back himself. we play 6 points a hole , so if you back yourself and win you take all the points , if you pick someone and either you or him win the hole you get 3 each . If you lose after backing yourself the other 3 split the points. If you pick a partner and you lose the other 2 split the points.

We play it off stableford scores generally to make it easier to work out with handicaps. Always good to back yourself on a hole you get shots on and the other guys don't

    Wolf ...

4 players draw lots to establish the teeing order. This rotates through the 18 holes.

Player 1 hits their tee shot. Player 2 then hits .... and player 1 can partner with player 2 ... or wait for player three. Once player 3 hits, you cant go back to player 2. Same again with player 4.

If you hit first .... you may decide to 'go on your own' (Loner's double all bets). If player 1 chooses you ... you can flick them (or jettison) and go alone (again doubling bets).

We also play that the last 4 holes are all auto doubled.

We also incorporate the following ... at $0.50 units. (The most someone has had to play the middle was $130).

Holes are worth 3 units. All ties carry over.

    One Unit for

    Hogans
    Long Dogs
    Green Hit
    NTP
    Sandys
    Seve's
    One Putts
    Ferrets
    Pinnies
    Flagies and
    Squirrels.

Another great game to play Marto is to just count how many time you hit the ball before it goes in the hole I think its called stroke play

All that other stuff has been introduced to give Marto a chance to get back in the game after going 14 down in the longdog units.

I wouldn't mind betting he made the term 'HOGANS' up.... Surprised he didn't go with 'Marto's'
